IBM is in advanced talks to acquire Confluent for approximately $11 billion, a deal that WOULD bolster its real-time data processing capabilities amid rising demand for AI infrastructure. The transaction, which could be announced as soon as Monday, values the Mountain View-based company at a premium to its $8 billion market capitalization.

Confluent’s open-source platform manages high-velocity data streams critical for financial transactions, retail analytics, and AI model training. The acquisition aligns with IBM’s strategic focus on hybrid cloud and enterprise AI, though sources caution negotiations remain fluid.

Shares of Confluent closed at $23.14 ahead of the news. The deal would mark one of the largest tech acquisitions of 2025, following Reuters’ October report of potential buyer interest.
